routine eye exam

what is routine care?

At Lotus Eyecare, we provide primary eye care for the whole family. The key for routine eye care is prevention. With yearly comprehensive eye exams, your optometrist can identify ocular diseases at the early stages and initiate appropriate treatment, before you develop visual complications.

what to expect?

There are two important components of your exam. Firstly we check for any refractive error and prescribe glasses or contacts according to your needs. Secondly we evaluate the ocular health through examining the intraocular pressure, the eye muscle movement, and the structures of the eye. During the exam we screen for Amblyopia, Strabismus, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Pathological Myopia, along with other changes due to systemic conditions, such as Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol.

How do I prepare for my exam?

Please bring your past glasses or contact lenses you have previously worn and a list of your current medications. (Why does my optometrist need to know my medical history?)

We always recommend a retinal exam at yearly visits. We can examine the retina with either Dilation or Fundus Photography.

What is the difference?

    dilated exam
  1. We put drops in the eyes
  2. Wait twenty minutes
  3. The doctor will examine the eyes with a light and lenses in 9 positions of gaze.
  4. After the exam, the doctor will explain what she has seen during the scan.
  5. The effects of the drops last 2-3 hours. You may experience light sensitivity and blur near.
    fundus photography
  1. During pretest you will be asked your preference.
  2. If you choose Optos, the tech will take a picture of the eye, which takes less than a few minutes.
  3. During your exam with the doctor, she will show you the images and review your retinal health.

If a patient is experiencing flashing lights, new floaters, or sudden loss of vision. Since these are signs of an ocular emergency, the doctor will require dilation.
